Caveat Emptor!
Spent a good amount of my hard-earned for what I thought was a quality product. Just over the warranty period, the metal stand whose only purpose is to hold the bike up while in folded position collapsed on itself like butter after approximately three uses, each use being for only a few minutes each. The bike odometer shows only 200 miles (I have not been able to ride for the last few months sadly).
I was surprised that a metal part would break so easily and when I showed the piece to a local welder they stated that the aluminum was boiled during the welding process (the two simultaneous breaks/failures happened right next to the welds), causing imperfections and damage to the metal structure. In other words, the welder temperature settings were set too high during the manufacturing process.
When I approached customer service at Rad Power Bikes they simply refused to assist, saying that the warranty had expired and "it was decided there was no indication of a manufacturing defect" Who decided this, the janitor? Were they a skilled welder, too?
In my opinion, a layman could look at the piece and see there was inconsistent structure...
Judge for yourselves if you want to work with/pay a company that treats its customers like this.
Not an awesome company.
Bought a trike for my mom. Shipped us a trike with a defective handlebar-two of four threads were bad. Decided to return after finding that the handlebar has a known issue with threading of the bolts that hold it from the manual, which gives special handling instructions (they could have just fixed the design, instead you are given instructions to carefully try to screw in by hand in “x pattern” before using a screwdriver). Pretty sure we got a returned trike that was not inspected properly before re-shipping out again. When I asked about them covering shipping, they falsely claimed that they “already waived restocking fee, can’t also pay return shipping.” However, their restocking fee only applies if the bike had been used, this had 0 miles and was returned within 7 days. Made sure they understood this, after they kept claiming they were giving me a favor for not keeping 30% of $2000 for returning an unused defective bike, and unopened accessory box. Also, there is Nothing in their terms about paying return shipping for defective units. They treated this entire process as if I simply changed my mind for no reason and indicated this on the return label.
Finally, was a PITA to repackage (had to use an unboxing video backwards), and had to take pictures of every step just to for then to accept the return. Then the “pre-paid” shipping label was taken out of my refund. Lots of wasted time and money ($160) for not even being able to test anything out on the road.
Final note: “2 day shipping” for this company means that they will ship after two days, it will take a week or so to arrive actually. They shipped from a location across the country despite having a nearby location in state (1.5 hours away).
Such a disappointment that Rad truly does not care enough to resolve a DOA bike issue. In August of 2022 I purchased two Rad Rover 6 bikes. Upon arrival and set up, one worked fine and the other was DOA. Customer service initially …
The shipping container/ box was banged up pretty good especially the bottom of the box.The Rad Runner Plus appeared to have been packed pretty well, but unfortunately the Shimano seven speed shifter was damaged. More than likely the damage incurred during FedEx shipping, but maybe packaging around the shifter could have been better as well ??
I contacted a Rad customer representative who was very helpful and without hesitation ordered me a new Shimano shifter. They also offered to reimburse me for charges incurred for installation of the Shimano shifter. The only problem, was my down time and standard shipping. It appears It’s going to be a week to 10 day arrival for my warranty part. The original shipping on the Rad Runner plus and accessories was only three days turn around. I think with a warranty part, shipping should be the same as purchase or overnight or two day, especially since your bike is out of service
They even offered locations close to my ZIP Code that would work on their Rad E bikes.
Only one of three locations presented to me was located in my hometown and the other two was an hour distance away In opposite directions.
While waiting for the shifter, I contacted several cyclery and E-bike shops in town and they refused to work on the Rad, because it was not purchased from them. That actually was my main concern buying online, but I like the Rad E bikes better than any other E bikes.
I’m must say the Rad Runner Plus is a quality well built E-Bike and sharp looking.
I purchased the Rad Runner because of the $200 off special. I’ll probably buy another one before the sale runs out on 8/29/22. I just hope next time around It arrives without damage
Best customer service experience I've had in a while. The Rad service center team fixed my bike in 48 hours, were friendly & communicative, and found ways to save me hundreds of dollars. Couldn't be happier!
My Rad experience started when I received my new Rad Runner ebike. After careful assembly I discovered the headlight did not work. I know, it may sound trivial but after spending that much money I expect the product to function at 100%. The only way to pursue issues at Rad is via email. After a couple of back and forth emails over several days, Rad decides to ship me a new headlight. Upon receipt and installation the problem was not fixed. Back to emails and more days go by. Next it was determined it must be the wiring harness. Now it gets complicated, multiple connections are involved and the "fishing" of wire through the frame is probably beyond most consumers skill set. I was able to replace the harness and it did correct the problem. Rads policy of 'customer engagement' is bullcrap. They will not exchange or offer warranty repair at an authorized dealer. They will not offer a discount for the hassle they put you through. I will never purchase a Rad product again and will bad mouth them every chance I get.
The worst customer service I have ever experienced. We bought a RadRunner 2 in July from the Seattle store. They did not have the passenger package in stock. We were told we can pay for it with the bike and they will have it shipped …
Edit: service was much faster and cheaper than I was originally quoted. I am confused but happy with the result. Original review below: …
